Biographical Text

Ernest Thurtle was born in New York state on November 11th of 1884. He was an accountant and salesman and served during the First World War. At the age of twenty-eight, he married the daughter of the leader of the British Labour Party, George Lansbury.
Thurtle served as a Member of Parliament from 1923 till 1931 and again from 1935 till 1950.
Along with him, Thurtle's wife, Dorothy Thurtle (1890-1873), was an activist for birth control and abortion.
His major accomplishment in the Parliament was the abolition of the Death Penalty.
