My dearest Margaret,

Thanks for your letter from Washington with the intimate details. I just delight in hearing about you. I will write again later but I just want to catch the post to say the Conference at Athens is postponed. I had already made up my mind to try to raise the money to go—Russia wd. be much more attractive—the magic “pill” is more likely to be found in America or England than anywhere else I think. Our attention shd. be on China, Japan, India & Russia. Japan actions are as tho’ undeterred by the fate of Germany she is emulating her in Asia—it seems incredible and the members of the L of N with the U.S.A. will soon bring her to her senses I hope before many more hundreds of lives are lost with their hellish bombing.

Am so glad you still have Emma and always greet her for me please.

I have got rid of the shop. Cut our losses & now can forget it. But my mother has been dying for a month & tho’ she is not suffering & indeed is happy in a way, it is an anxiety.

I just will keep cheerful—

Dearest Margaret write when you can to
Edith
